We've been in the house for a month now. Still love the house and are very happy with the neighborhood and our neighbors. Last night we went to Chili's for dinner, and then decided to go on a late night bike ride when we got home. Unfortunately, Hubs locked the side door of the house when we went to the garage to get our bikes. The side door that has a different key from the front door that we hadn't gotten around to putting on our key rings. Also, we had locked the screen in front of the front door when we got back from dinner, so we definitely couldn't go in through the front door. As we're standing by the side door realizing that we are 1) locked out and 2) it's about 11:30 p.m., a police car pulls up in front of the house. My first thought - "Yay! We're saved." See, the previous owner of our house, Erin, works for the village police and patrols our neighborhood. Hub's first thought - "Crap! They are going to think we are breaking into this house!" Hubs was behind me as we walked towards the street curb, so I didn't see him do this, but he says that he even put both of his hands up in the air a little ways. HAHAHAHA!!!! The first thing Erin does is whip out her cell phone and call the neighbors to see if they still have a key to the house. They did, but it was the key to the front door, not the side door. So then we get the ladder from the garage to see if any of the windows are unlocked. This doesn't work either, because all the window's have a child safety lock (or maybe it's an anti-burglary lock), so we can't get in that way either. Just then, the neighbor comes back out with another key, and it works! Hallelujah! Now, we have all the keys to our house on both of our key rings. :)
