Given the recent news stories about the Tennessee family that sent the little boy back to Russia by himself, there seems to be a need for a call to arms advocating for international adoption.
If you read through this blog, you will know that we have not had the easiest adoption journey. In fact, it's sucked. However, that has not stopped us. We have a referral, and will hopefully be going to court soon to make one special little boy a permanent part of our family.
I just have to say, as is normal with press, you usually only hear the bad stories. The ones that make for good "entertainment." However, a simple search of the internet will pull up tons of the good stories. Adoptive parents and prospective adoptive parents alike are telling their stories through blogs. Read them. I think you will be moved.
Regardless of how you came to have (or not have) children in your family, please advocate for the continuance of adoption, both domestic and international. There are children all over the world who need families, and there are families who are willing to be there for those children. Please don't let one bad situation effect all the rest of us.
