Noah and I have slightly crazy stories for why we have the vehicles that we have/had. Most recently, we have become the owners of a 2007 Chevy Silverado that previously belonged to my dad.
It was pouring down rain on Sunday, and someone hydroplaned into my husband on the interstate. Above is just one of many pictures, but I'll tell you that the truck was hit on the passenger side, the front and the driver side.
We don't know if the other driver was speeding or driving erratically. What we do know is that luckily everyone was able to walk away from the accident with a fair bit of soreness but no serious injuries.
So my request to all 7 of my valued readers is that you remember to slow down during inclement weather. Don't slam on your brakes if you start to hydroplane. Wear your seat belt. Make sure you insurance is up-to-date.
That said, we're waiting to hear from our insurance company on whether or not the truck will be totaled. Either way, we will be getting a new (to us) vehicle.
We are not hagglers. Especially when it comes to cars. For this reason, we love Carmax! (And no, this is not a sponsored post.) We've purchased two vehicles through Carmax in the past. On one of those, we traded in a vehicle. And on a third and separate occasion, we've sold a vehicle to Carmax. They really just can't make the process any easier. On both occasions, we took our new (to us) vehicle to a mechanic to get it checked out within the time frame that we could return the vehicle with no questions asked. Both times, the mechanics said before looking at the vehicle that they were sure it was fine
since it came from Carmax. Also, we got the extended warranty on our last purchase, which, unfortunately, we've had to use it a lot. Fortunately, it is EASY TO USE and very comprehensive! Now that we are looking to buy another vehicle, we are really only looking at Carmax, and we
will get the extended warranty.
Now on to the fun part -- figuring out what to get! After our last 3 vehicles getting only about 17 MPG at best, a higher MPG is important to Noah. I also prefer to get car seats that use the LATCH system, so it's important to me that the new vehicle has the anchors for the latches. Noah is leaning towards Volkswagens, and I'm leaning towards hatchbacks.
A dear friend has offered to babysit for us on Valentine's Day, so we've decided to use the uber-romantic occasion to start our search for the new car. I'll let you know what we pick!
